Volunteer at CGLLEN

At Central Grampians LLEN, we offer rewarding volunteer opportunities that allow you to connect with your community and make a real difference in the life of a local young person. Whether you have a little time to spare, or a lot, you can provide vital support for a participant in our MATES or TAC L2P programs.

TAC L2P Program

Mentors in our TAC L2P Program assist young learner drivers aged 16 to 21 who don’t have access to a supervising driver or vehicle, gain the 120 hours driving experience required to apply for a probationary licence. L2P mentors sit beside the young person while they drive in our program vehicle and help them gain the confidence they need to become safe drivers. We provide a free training program for mentors to ensure you’re well prepared to mentor a learner
and understand your role as a supervising driver.

Time commitment: One drive per week (approx. one hour). Flexible times.

MATES Mentoring

You can volunteer in our MATES program by mentoring a local young person. Our MATES mentors visit a student at their school for one hour each fortnight, within school hours, for the duration of the school year. Since 2021, MATES has been providing students in Ararat Rural City and the Northern Grampians Shire with positive role models to look up to and learn from. Students love spending time with their mentors and engaging in lots of fun activities during MATES sessions. All mentors are provided with free training to prepare them for the role.

Time commitment: One hour per fortnight (within school hours).

My Year to Volunteer Campaign

In 2026, Central Grampians LLEN joined forces with Northern Grampians Shire Council, Grampians Community Health and East Wimmera Health Service to develop My Year to Volunteer, a campaign that recognises our amazing local volunteers and celebrates the vital role they play in building stronger, more connected, and inclusive communities.

Launched during National Volunteer Week, My Year to Volunteer shines a spotlight on dedicated volunteers from local clubs, community groups and not-for-profit organisations, highlighting their valuable contributions while inspiring others across our community to get involved and make a difference.

Watch the campaign video, below, to hear what inspires our local volunteers, including CGLLEN mentors, Karen (MATES) and Clinton (L2P), to give back to their communities.
